Rodney catches his arm, refusing to let him turn away. Refusing to allow him to hide any longer.
Carson’s breath hitches in his throat. “Just no, Rodney. It ca’nae be what it was between us anymore.”
“But why, Carson?” Rodney tries to keep the whine out of his voice, but can hear it there anyway. “you haven’t given me a single real reason!” Anger washed through him; it had been weeks since Carson’s return and the man had been avoiding being alone with him the whole time. “You have to let me in!”
Carson’s face was awash with guilt when he finally looked up at Rodney. “It just can’t be, Rodney. You have to trust me. I’m not the same after Michael…”
His anger flared. “What? What did Michael do to you? Because if this is about you not being ‘real,’ we’ve been over it before. It. Doesn’t. Matter.” Rodney took Carson’s face in his hands, anger giving way to concern. “You are the same Carson to me, always.”
“Rodney! You ha’e to listen to me! I’ve changed. He… he..” Carson was blushing, color rising up his neck and into his cheeks.
Hoping to finally get to the bottom of this mystery, Rodney kissed him gently, soothing him before he gently asked, “What, Carson? What did Michael do to you? Did he hurt you? Did he…”
“NO! It was nothing like that!” Carson watched Rodney carefully as he continued, “He… he got careless with the DNA, all right, Rodney? I’ma literally not the same and… we ca’nae… we just ca’nae be together anymore.” Rodney almost missed the next part, because Carson’s voice had grown so soft, “I’ll hurt you…”
Rodney sputtered, “Hurt me? What’d he do, infuse you with iratus DNA?” Carson shook his head in a violent no. “Just tell me what he did, Carson, and we’ll figure it out together.”
“I…” resignation washed over him. “It’d be easier to just show ya…” He gestured for Rodney to follow him back into one of the curtained exam areas. Rodney’s mind raced through the possibilities, bracing himself for the worst.
He was surprised when Carson dropped his pants, wondering for a moment if he’d misread the situation entirely and was about to get lucky. Carson’s next words quelled that thought s sure as any ice water, “You ha’e to come closer and look for yourself. I’m’a not gonna show the world.”
Rodney turned to shut the curtain, and when he turned back around, Carson was holding the waistband of his boxers out, blushing so scarlet he glowed. Rodney approached cautiously, morbid, insistent curiosity warring with genuine fear for his lover. He caught Carson’s eyes and gave him what he hoped was a reassuring nod before he bent and peeked into the other man’s shorts.
What the hell…? There was something in Carson’s shorts – which, given the preamble should hardly have been shocking, but still… whatever it was was purple and as thick as his arm and pulsing and writhing and… attached to Carson’s body.
Rodney leaned back abruptly, gripping the gurney behind him to keep from falling.
Carson rushed in to fill the silence, seemingly unable to just watch the wheels of Rodney’s mind turn. “He swore he ha’e no idea how it happened. Told me my DNA must have gotten mixed with one of those elephant-horse things on that planet with the…”
Rodney straightened himself up and moved in close, “So, tell me, Carson.” If he’d been paying attention to anything but the floor, Carson would have noticed the dangerous gleam in Rodney’s eyes. “Exactly how much control do you have of this thing…”

Oh. That's just... How have I not seen this before? ::giggles madly::
Carson, Carson, Carson. Darlin', did you really not see experimentation in your future when you thought about Rodney? ::shakes head sadly:: Sweetie? You seriously need to turn down the angst volume if it managed to drown that out.

He seriously, seriously does. Of course, I have to admit that I've always seen Carson as a little bit of a whiner, however unpopular that may be, fanishly speaking.
And you didn't see it because you dropped off the face of the earth there for a while, chica.

Yeah. Carson suffers. Not his most attractive quality. It's why I can never really get behind Carson/Rodney for more than drabbley stuff or crack-fic. Stick complaint!happy!Rodney with SUFFERING!Carson and bad things happen to both of them.
