Goodbye, Dragonlady.

Anne McCaffery is gone.

I never met Anne, never had any kind of "personal" contact with her--I haven't even read any of the books she wrote in the last decade or two. Yet I'm sitting here with tears streaming down my face. Her creations lived and breathed in my mind. They were a huge part of my childhood, a sanctuary for me and absolutely formative.

Anne touched my heart and fueled the fires of my imagination.

I hope it's not too cold for her Between.

(Please feel free to use the picture or icon to honor Anne. They are my mainps from book cover art, and I grant free permission. BTW, getting dragons to fly the missing man formation is not as simple as it sounds.)

Gorgeous.

I have nothing to add that you didn't already say. Thanks for the post.

Wow. Somehow, I had no idea she was that old. Of course, childhood icons rarely age like normal people, I suppose.

Yeah, I was really surprised too, when Michael told me how old she was. I'm not usually affected much be famous people dying, but this is different. At least she had a long run and got to do what she loved.

I'm in shock myself. Until I had to put my library in storage seven years ago, I reread the Dragon novels and the Talents Saga at least once a year. Anne also wrote the forward to the first book in one of my *other* fave series, the Liaden verse novels. It's what made me buy the book. I figured that if *Anne McCaffrey* liked it, it *must* be a good book.

I don't have any of the later novels she wrote with her son Todd (unemployment curtails non-vital purchases) but I always planned to buy them once things get better.

I'm shocked and saddened that she's gone.

The artwork is incredible. Thank you for it - it's perfect.

ETA: fix typo so this makes sense.

I used to reread the Harper Hall and Dragonrider books all the time, until my hands got so bad that reading in print had too high a cost in pain.

While I was looking for graphics to make my manip, I found a site with the full text of Dragonsong here. They may have others, too; I haven't had time to investigate.
